We
(Tim and Ruth Harder) met on the mission field in California in 2013,
and were married in 2015. Our passion is to see people discover, and
be filled with, the beauty of God’s heart. Our ministry – John 17
Mission – is named after Jesus’ prayer revealing His eternal desire
for just that, in John 17:21-26. After marriage, we worked in OKC and
then Denver, primarily with inner-city youth outreach and
discipleship, and also helping to raise up prayer and worship, before
moving back to Wichita (Tim’s hometown) in June 2017.
In September of 2018, with the help of many friendships in the body of
Christ, we were blessed to be able to purchase and rehab a vacant
two-story home near Douglas and Grove. The vision for this house is to
give us a kingdom foothold next to East High from which we, and a whole
community of friends and partners in Christ, can pray for, reach out
to, and disciple East High and the surrounding community.
Why a
House?
We
are big believers in incarnational missions. When the Father
wanted to reveal Himself to the world, He didn’t just write us a book
or hold a meeting and talk about what God is like. No, far more
profoundly, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we
beheld His glory.” (John 1:14)
Incarnational
missions is about the heart of pursuit – God so loved that
He came for us, not just momentarily for an outreach or event, but He
rearranged His whole life to live among us and reveal His heart to
us.
It’s
about the mission of family – that we would not only go out
to pursue God’s lost kids, but we would love them and bring them home
into a lasting relationship as sons and daughters of God and members
of His family.
It’s
about the power of presence – as we invite God into
our home, and then invite God’s kids into our home, we believe
God will meet with His children there, and they will be forever
changed.
It’s about the priority of discipleship – there’s a generation that is hungry to not just hear words about God, but to see lives lived in Christ. We know we will do it very imperfectly, but our heart, because we know it’s the Father’s heart, is to open up our lives and say to those who are seeking for God, “Imitate me as I imitate Christ.” (1 Corinthians 11:1)
It’s just one house, but it’s the Father’s house
to use as He pleases and to do what He loves:
to reveal Himself in and through His sons and daughters!
In this class, we’re working our way through Jesus’ unfolding of the New Covenant and what life with the Holy Spirit would like: What’s God’s part? What’s our part? How do we walk out this new relationship?
Part 2 looks at Jesus’ first of four simple, relational commands: believe. Trusting in the Father, and believing what He is like, is the foundation for our New Covenant relationship. The love Jesus calls us to is a love that comes as we abide in Him and as we ask in His name, which our both made possible only through faith. We have to believe in His goodness and in what He desires to give in order to enter into it. Faith comes through revelation, and so the call to believe is a call to an active pursuit. We grow in believing as we position ourselves to let Holy Spirit give us the revelation of the Father through the life of Jesus.
In this class, we’re working our way through Jesus’ unfolding of the New Covenant and what life with the Holy Spirit would like: what’s God’s part? what’s our part? how do we walk out this new relationship?
Part 1 is an overview of the Upper Room Discourse – John chapters 14 through 16 – where Jesus begins to teach His disciples about the New Covenant. In this talk, we’re looking at the context Jesus is speaking in and what that says about how to receive this message; the key points of Jesus’ instruction; and the overall theme that Jesus continually draws our hearts into as He is speaking.
A look at the heart of God as revealed in the night of the Last Supper – specifically Jesus washing His disciples’ feet, and the marriage symbolism in the wine and bread of the New Covenant.
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” ~ John 14:18
“We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.” ~ 1 John 1:3
We’ve heard it often – ‘Christianity is a relationship, not a religion.’ Still, we can hardly imagine what fellowship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit really looks like. That was what Jesus most wanted to talk about, though, as He prepared to go to the Cross. He wanted to teach His disciples how to have fellowship with God.
In the season between the Cross where Jesus purchased it, and Pentecost where He poured it out, we want to dive in to what Jesus had to say about life in the New Covenant – life in the Spirit – life in fellowship with God. In seven Tuesday evenings of worship, teaching, and ministry/response time, we will cover John 14-16 and Jesus’ teaching on how to grow in our relationship with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Come join us!

The final week of the Wednesday night messages on our current Isaiah 56 focus is on how to respond when God prophetically reveals the dream of His heart. God sets a pattern for us in Isaiah 62 of how He shares His dreams and of what He calls us to do in response.
