Isaiah 56 Focus Week 7: Friends of the Bridegroom

Posted by

Week seven the focus is on the mission and ministry of God’s house. Again, there is some background thoughts and verses, and then passages to meditate on. Return to these as often as you like (our suggestion is every day during this period!), dialog with the Lord about what they mean to Him, use the questions at the bottom as fuel, and then pray it: God if that’s what’s in your heart than do … in me, and do … in my city and in the nations of the earth!

Week 7: The Mission of God’s House – Friends of the Bridegroom

PDF Handout – Week 7 – Friends of the Bridegroom

Background Verses: The prophecy of Isaiah 56 is explicitly missional in its focus. It’s assumed that everyone knows God’s house is a house of prayer from all God has already done and said. The thrust of the prophecy is: a house of prayer for all. God wants all who will say yes to covenant with God, to being His and living for His pleasure, to be drawn into His house. (more…)

Pursue Love (Burning Hearts Gathering 1/9/13)

As a new year begins, here’s a simple call back to the one thing God calls us to give our lives to: pursue love. God promises that if we value what He values and pursue His priorities, He will take care of the rest, and God’s central motivation and drive in all that He does is love.

This is a practical look at what it really means to give your life to the pursuit of love, given that God is love and love is of God: how to pursue the width and length and height and depth of the love of God – not just how we conceive of love in our brokenness, but the fullness of love as God defines it, flowing from His heart abounding in love, and not stopping until we’ve given all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

Pray the Lord of the Harvest (Burning Hearts Gathering 11/21/12)

Another look at the story God is telling through the house of prayer, specifically this week at the connection between the house of prayer and God’s heart for missions and the lost.

Jesus turns to His disciples in Matthew 9:36-38 and because His heart is moved, calls them to pray for Him to send forth laborers into His harvest field. God is after establishing a culture where the Lord of the Harvest is put in His rightful place in Christian mission and the story is not us going, but rather Him sending because His heart is longing for His lost children. When that happens it radically reshapes how we do church, mission, evangelism, discipleship… and how we feel about all of those things.

Forerunner Ministry DNA (Burning Hearts Gathering 8/1/12)

Tim teaches on the DNA of ministry with a forerunner spirit: what are the essential characteristics of doing ministry in a way that makes sense in light of the return of Jesus? How do we make ready a people prepared for the Lord? Scripture tells us a lot about what’s on God’s heart for this generation, and it’s very different than what we’ll find ourselves doing by default. We need a revelation of eternity and the kingdom of God if we’re to partner with God in something of eternal significance.
