Fellowship with God – pt2 – Believe

Posted by

In this class, we’re working our way through Jesus’ unfolding of the New Covenant and what life with the Holy Spirit would like: What’s God’s part? What’s our part? How do we walk out this new relationship?

Part 2 looks at Jesus’ first of four simple, relational commands: believe. Trusting in the Father, and believing what He is like, is the foundation for our New Covenant relationship. The love Jesus calls us to is a love that comes as we abide in Him and as we ask in His name, which our both made possible only through faith. We have to believe in His goodness and in what He desires to give in order to enter into it. Faith comes through revelation, and so the call to believe is a call to an active pursuit. We grow in believing as we position ourselves to let Holy Spirit give us the revelation of the Father through the life of Jesus.

Fellowship with God – pt1 – The Upper Room Discourse

In this class, we’re working our way through Jesus’ unfolding of the New Covenant and what life with the Holy Spirit would like: what’s God’s part? what’s our part? how do we walk out this new relationship?

Part 1 is an overview of the Upper Room Discourse – John chapters 14 through 16 – where Jesus begins to teach His disciples about the New Covenant. In this talk, we’re looking at the context Jesus is speaking in and what that says about how to receive this message; the key points of Jesus’ instruction; and the overall theme that Jesus continually draws our hearts into as He is speaking.

Isaiah 56 Focus Week 2: Intimacy With God

Posted by

Week two the focus is shifting from identity and who we are, to calling and what we’re made for. Again, the first page is background Scripture to start connecting our hearts with the ideas, and the second is passages to meditate on. Return to these as often as you like (our suggestion is every day during this period!), dialog with the Lord about what they mean to Him, use the questions at the bottom as fuel, and then pray it: God if that’s what’s in your heart than do … in me, and do … in my city and in the nations of the earth!

Week 2: The Central Call of the Church – Intimacy with God

PDF Version: Week 2 – Intimacy with God

Background Verses: The identity of priesthood speaks about who we are and how God sees us: first and foremost as a people chosen by God for God to have God and to belong to God. The call of intimacy speaks about how then we ought to live: our path forward into fullness and our measure of success is in loving God and being loved by God. By God’s indisputable choice, our lives are measured and defined not by many things, but by one thing – our relationship with God. (more…)

Foundations for Intercession: Friendship – Authority (Burning Hearts Gathering 2/27/13)

Posted by

Part 5 in a series on Foundations for Intercession.

As we finish this series on intercession, we’re looking at what it means to live in the authority that God has given us, again in the context of relationship. Our authority doesn’t come from who we are, but from who we are to Him. It’s not a legal arrangement that grants us authority but rather the way that God’s heart is moved over us and His delight in displaying His love toward us by backing the desires of our hearts when they’re in agreement with His.

Understanding authority gives us more than just confidence to pray bold prayers, it shapes our whole life into one lived expecting our Father to have our back. It reshapes our priorities when we truly believe that our created purpose and our way forward in all that God has put in our hearts, is to move the heart the God.

Foundations for Intercession: Vision (Burning Hearts Gathering 1/16/13)

Posted by

As we pursue growing in the spirit of prayer, we’re starting a new series on Foundations for Intercession.

This first session is about our foundational vision for what intercession is about and why God wants us to enter in to it. Intercession is intensely personal to God. It’s about more than just effective ministry. The best fuel for a life of intercession is an intensely relational vision for why we do it. It’s about our hearts connecting with God’s. It’s about God’s desire for friends.

Pursue Love (Burning Hearts Gathering 1/9/13)

Posted by

As a new year begins, here’s a simple call back to the one thing God calls us to give our lives to: pursue love. God promises that if we value what He values and pursue His priorities, He will take care of the rest, and God’s central motivation and drive in all that He does is love.

This is a practical look at what it really means to give your life to the pursuit of love, given that God is love and love is of God: how to pursue the width and length and height and depth of the love of God – not just how we conceive of love in our brokenness, but the fullness of love as God defines it, flowing from His heart abounding in love, and not stopping until we’ve given all our heart, soul, mind and strength.

For I Have Desired It (Burning Hearts Gathering 11/14/12)

Tim sharing on the prophetic history of the house of prayer, not just in our generation, but throughout the story of redemption, and the testimony about the heart of God that we carry when we enter in to that story.

We’re invited to enter into a culture of corporate prayer and worship not simply as a good idea or an effective strategy for doing church, but as a response to the dream of God’s heart to dwell among men, to be our God and us His people.

Simple Faith – The Upper Room Discourse (Burning Hearts Gathering 8/15/12)

Posted by

We’re starting a new series on: Simple Faith

In the Upper Room Discourse in John 13-17 Jesus teaches on what life looks like under the New Covenant. It’s beautiful in its simplicity, its loving nature and its accessibility. The Father, in love, has prepared for us a light yoke that is not out of our reach but belongs to little children.

We need to hear again and again Jesus’ message on the simplicity of believing and abiding, because our chief battleground in pursuing God is remaining in the simplicity of faith in and love for the Person of Christ, and not getting distracted and confused by adding to the simplicity of devotion that is in Christ.

Defining Bridal Intimacy: Cherishing (Burning Hearts Gathering 5/23/12)

Posted by

Part 7 in the series:  Gospel Identity: Belonging to God

As we continue to look at what “intimacy with God” really means through the revelation of the Bride of Christ, this third part looks at the heart of love and how Jesus cherishes and nourishes His bride as though she were His own body – one with Him, and how He calls us to do the same.

As we begin to see that Jesus sees and cares for our feelings, our struggles, our cares and our desires, it frees us to live focused on His feelings, His burdens, His dreams and His desires. God longs to have that kind of deep, intimate friendship with us. He wants to share with us the deep things of His heart, knowing we will cherish them and steward them in love.
